THE PEARL OF LA BOQUERIA

Fresh oysters in Barcelona

French oysters from Normandy and Galician oysters selected for their freshness, flavour and quality.
At OSTRES BCN, you can enjoy them freshly shucked at our stall in La Boqueria or take them away prepared.

French oysters from Normandy

Our Normandy oysters stand out for their exceptional quality, shaped by the unique natural conditions of Normandy’s oldest oyster-farming region. They are cultivated in the bays of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, a protected area sheltered by Tatihou Island, where calm waters and stronger currents combine to create ideal conditions for their growth.

The tides in this area, considered among the strongest in Europe, continuously renew the water and bring an abundance of nutrients, encouraging balanced and consistent growth. These oysters are also known for their particularly thick and resilient shells, which help them retain moisture out of the water and stay fresh for longer.

Galician oysters

Our Galician oysters come from the exceptional waters of the Galician Rías, internationally renowned for the outstanding quality of their seafood. Grown and selected in Cambados, in the heart of the Ría de Arousa, they stand out for their freshness, intense taste of the sea and balanced minerality—qualities that make them a true benchmark of Galician gastronomy.

Each oyster undergoes a rigorous selection and purification process to preserve its sensory qualities while ensuring the highest food-safety standards, maintaining its meaty texture, juiciness and natural flavour.

With a robust shell and a firm yet delicate interior, these oysters offer a perfect balance of sweetness and salinity, with a clean, lingering finish that reflects the richness of Galician waters. Ideal for enjoying natural or with a few drops of lemon.

PAIRINGS

How to pair and enjoy a great oyster

The flavour of an oyster changes depending on its origin, the waters where it was grown and its level of salinity.
A great oyster can be enjoyed perfectly on its own, but choosing the right pairing can enhance its freshness, minerality and maritime character.

Cava

Brut Nature cava and semi-dry cava are both excellent options with oysters. Two different styles let you choose a drier or softer pairing depending on your preference.

White wine

Dry white wines with good acidity pair beautifully with oysters, adding freshness without masking their flavour.

Sparkling wine

Other traditionally made sparkling wines also pair very well thanks to their balance, freshness and lightness.

Beer

A fresh, light beer pairs very well with the salinity of oysters and helps balance their maritime character.

Dry vermouth

A dry white vermouth offers a fresh, slightly bitter and distinctly Mediterranean pairing.

Sangria

A fresh and fruity option, perfect with oysters in a more relaxed setting. Its combination of fruit, wine and freshness contrasts beautifully with the oysters’ salty, maritime character.

HOW TO ENJOY THEM

Simple, fresh and served at their best

Oysters with accompaniments or natural?

It comes down to personal taste. Some prefer a few drops of lemon, mignonette, ponzu, a touch of spice or pepper. Others choose to enjoy an oyster natural, to fully appreciate its flavour, minerality and texture.
Our recommendation is simple: try your first oyster without any accompaniments. Discover its nuances, then decide how you’d like to enjoy the next one.

OSTRES BCN’s recommendation

After shucking thousands of oysters, we still believe in the essentials: a freshly shucked, well-chilled oyster and a glass of cava.
When the product is good, all it needs is care, respect and the right moment to enjoy it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions about our oysters

We answer some of the most common questions before you try or buy oysters at our stall in La Boqueria Market.

How do you eat an oyster?+
To fully enjoy an oyster, try it natural first. Once opened, check its fresh, sea-like aroma. Gently loosen it from the shell, bring it to your mouth and chew it lightly to appreciate its texture and all its nuances. Fresh, natural and straight from the sea to your palate.
Are the oysters shucked to order?+
Yes. At OSTRES BCN, we shuck every oyster to order so we can preserve its freshness, flavour and quality at their best.
Can I buy oysters to take away?+
Yes. You can enjoy them freshly shucked at OSTRES BCN in La Boqueria, or take them away prepared to enjoy at home. For takeaway, we can serve them already shucked and carefully prepared to preserve their freshness and quality as much as possible.
How should I store oysters at home?+
In general, oysters should always be kept refrigerated in the coldest part of the fridge. If they are closed, place them with the cupped side facing down to help retain their natural liquid. If they are already open, keep them well chilled and protected, and consume them as soon as possible.
What is the difference between French and Galician oysters?+
Although both are known for their quality, their flavour reflects the character of the waters they come from. French oysters tend to offer a more mineral, salty and complex profile, while Galician oysters stand out for their freshness, intense maritime flavour and iodine notes.

Each origin has its own personality: the best choice comes down to personal taste.
Which oyster size should I choose?+
The size number indicates the oyster’s size and weight. Smaller oysters offer a more delicate tasting experience, while larger ones provide more generous flesh and a fuller texture.

If you are unsure, we’ll be happy to guide you at OSTRES BCN so you can choose the size that best suits your tastes.
Which drink pairs best with oysters?+
Oysters pair especially well with fresh, dry drinks with good acidity, which enhance their maritime flavours without masking them. A dry white wine, brut sparkling wine or a light beer are excellent choices.
